Who this applies to

Every resident of Latvia needs a valid identity document. The eID card includes electronic signature and authentication — it unlocks e-services such as Latvija.gov.lv and EDS. Fee discounts remain for children and young people under 20, pensioners and persons with group I or II disability.

Step by step

Choose the document and issue speed

Standard — 10 working days (passport 50 EUR, eID 30 EUR); urgent — 2 working days (passport 75 EUR, eID 45 EUR). If you qualify for a discount, the standard fee is 25 EUR for a passport and 15 EUR for an eID.

Visit a PMLP branch

Bring your current identity document. For a discount, bring a document proving your status if the authority does not already have that data.

Pay the state fee

From 1 January 2026 a passport or eID card is processed only after the state fee is paid — production does not start without payment.

Collect the document

The document is ready within the chosen term — 10 or 2 working days depending on the fee paid.

Common mistakes

Planning a trip at the last minute — the standard term is 10 working days and urgent issue costs notably more.
Not knowing about discounts — pensioners, children under 20 and persons with group I/II disability pay almost half.
Delaying the fee payment — since 2026 production starts only after payment.
