Exchanging a driving licence
A driving licence is exchanged when it expires, when personal data changes or a new qualification is obtained; you can also exchange it without any special reason. A standard exchange costs 22.41 EUR (card 16.99 EUR incl. VAT + processing and issue 5.42 EUR).
Who this applies to
Step by step
Check your medical certificate
A valid medical certificate is required — no printout needed, the data is in the e-register. You can check its validity free of charge in e-CSDD. Driving without a valid medical certificate is treated as driving without a valid licence.
Prepare documents
You need a passport or eID card and your current licence (unless lost or stolen). If the licence was stolen, report the theft to the police.
Go to CSDD and pay
Licences are exchanged at CSDD centres providing driver qualification services. A standard exchange, or a replacement for a lost/stolen licence, costs 22.41 EUR.
Special cases
If the licence expired more than 3 years ago, you must pass the category B theory and driving exams (theory 11.40 EUR, driving 50.57 EUR). Licence renewal (after disqualification etc.) is possible in person only.
