Long-term visa (D visa)
A long-term (national D) visa lets a foreigner stay in Latvia beyond the short-stay Schengen limits — for a specific purpose such as work, or while a residence permit is being processed. Since 2025 the state fee for a long-term visa request is 90 EUR; if the application is filed with PMLP less than 3 working days before your lawful stay expires — 180 EUR.

Arrange the grounds
For employment the inviting party first has the ielūgums or izsaukums approved by PMLP. In the form, state the main purpose of entry — e.g. “NODARBINĀTĪBA” (employment), “SEZONAS DARBS” (seasonal work) or “BRĪVPRĀTĪGAIS DARBS” (volunteering) — and prove it with documents.
Submit the application
In Latvia the application is filed with PMLP. The form also asks for your current occupation, employer or educational institution, and your residence document if your country of residence differs from your country of citizenship.
Pay the fee on time
The standard fee is 90 EUR. If you file with PMLP less than three working days before your lawful stay expires, the fee doubles to 180 EUR — so never leave it to the last day.
